People-first purpose
Every calculator and guide is built to answer a specific, practical question someone actually has — a pricing decision, an inventory reorder trigger, a turnover cost estimate — rather than to target a keyword. If a page doesn't help someone make or check a real decision, it doesn't get published.
Accuracy and formula transparency
The formula used for every result is written out on the same page as the calculator, not hidden behind the number. Where a calculator makes an assumption — a time period, a definition, a scope — that assumption is stated rather than buried in the result. The full process is described on the Methodology page.
Source selection
Sources are chosen using the hierarchy on the Methodology page: official and institutional documentation first, then academically credible material, recognized professional references, reputable technical documentation, and direct derivation for elementary formulas. A citation is added when it's genuinely relevant and verifiable — not as decoration to make a page look more authoritative.
Visible assumptions and limitations
Every calculator page documents its formula, assumptions, units, defaults, edge cases, and limitations alongside the tool itself, and states plainly what the result does and doesn't account for.
Author transparency
Business Math Lab is created and maintained by one named, real person — Ivan Daniel — rather than an anonymous "editorial team." His role, responsibilities, and professional limitations are stated on his profile page. No qualification, credential, testimonial, customer reference, or usage number is published without support.
Editorial independence
Business Math Lab is an independent site. It does not claim endorsement, partnership, or accreditation from any accounting, financial, legal, or professional body.
Corrections
Reported calculation or formula errors are investigated against the documented methodology. Confirmed substantive errors are corrected promptly, and the affected page's modification date is updated to reflect the correction.
Publication, modification, and review dates
Publication and modification dates are changed only after a meaningful change to content, formula, methodology, or functionality — they are not refreshed on a schedule or touched just to make a page look recent. Where a page shows a "Last checked for calculation accuracy" date, that date reflects an actual internal check of the formula, worked example, units, and edge-case behavior against the documented methodology — not an independent third-party review.
Software and AI-assisted workflows
Software and AI-assisted tools may be used during drafting, testing, editing, or quality assurance. Published formulas, worked examples, limitations, and final page content are reviewed before release, and the site is not represented as fully AI-generated.
Accessibility and mobile usability
Pages are checked for keyboard interaction, visible focus states, sufficient color contrast, and layout at common mobile, tablet, and desktop widths before publishing, and reduced-motion preferences are respected where animation is used.
Monetization separation
